Cats in the Gutter, Drunk on Wine

Matt Elliott

One description to fit all three albums, dark spiralling lullabies for the electro generation. A mixture of depression and salvation through perfectly understood harmonics... if you're planning on locking yourself away and sinking in to a depression any time soon, let this be your soundtrack. All this being said, his music also has an unusually uplifiting quality and i've been able to mould it to many moods in my past. The standout track across all three albums will always be drinking songs 'the maid we messed' a 20 minute epic of medlodic electronics going into what i'd like to call breakcore... but could never say for sure, all i can say... is it isn't quite like anything else i've ever heard.

Sorry about the delay in posts

OK I'M BACK... the printf zip is fixed and the missing songs are added, Pink + Green has been added to the snares discog for completion & the missing write-up's/dwnload links have been replaced.

I seriously hate firefox just as much as i hate ie... the both of them have been screwing me around as to what they will and wont do with my blog, now my only problem is upload speed, which for some reason has grinded to a halt. But as it is, the blog is back... and things are on the way.

Bukkakecore

Duran Duran Duran
Very Pleasure

If such a thing as gheycore exists, it's done by Ed Flis & co. There's not a lot that can be said about an album that features tracks of 80's style cheesy breakcore alongside tracks composed nearly completely of fellatio noises. I'd recommend it... but wot da fuck eva eh'.

http://www.mediafire.com/?612a1zizg5t

Ebola
Predator e.p.

Fucking amazing, a homage to the Arnie classic, for free music... this is amazing, you'd be surprised how cool a sample the predators hiss makes in-between gabba breaks. And considering the amount of audio taken directly from the film for this release, I'm amazed it wasn't boring. Any fans of the wrong crew, will dig this.

Ebola
Flaccid Breaks

Silly silly silly silly silly.... silly. it's silly. But fucking awesome. Circus + Breaks + Computer Games + Drugs = This 4 track musical virus. I fucking love this guy.

Re-Tape Audio
Chinese Laptop Rage

If you downloaded and enjoyed the 'Thye' release, you're sure to enjoy this too. Well structured insanity, slightly less messy than the two Ebola releases... but just as heavy. Bits of 8-bit and ragga shining through.

Venice is a Chocolate-Glue Doll Frozen Cunt Killer

Venetian Snares Discography

Pink + Green

Going back to what snares does best, fast nasty and illogically fun breakcore. The start/self titled album track gives you a fast introduction as to what lies ahead, Higgins era styled broken up beats for you to dance yer ass off to. The standout track for me would be Husikam rave dojo, snaresified Oldskool breakcore hardcore, with dnb MC drug chants thrown over spastic female vocal samples. I thought snares was going to start churning out mellow idm type stuff after hospitality... this is proof that he's still the man!

http://www.mediafire.com/?9dgko9g9hwf

Hospitality

Given the time is it was made it's an obvious comment but... this release sounds like a bunch of tracks left off of Cavalcade, tha
t being said i don't say that in a negative light, it's still a very nice piece of glitchy breakcore, probably a good starter piece for people just getting into the genre because it's more melodic angle... while not punishing, this one's an easy listener.

http://www.mediafire.com/?3oydmmzymdl

Cavalcade of Glee & Dadaist Happy Hardcore Pom Poms

Another masterpiece... from the harmony melodies of 'P' too full on rave tracks like 'Plunging Hornets' & 'Pwntendo', this is nothing short of awesome... the biggest thing i noticed about this release though in adaptation with what happened on Rossz is snares has tamed down on the hardcore front, the sounds are all still there, but it's presented in a much cleaner & easy to process manner, not personally the way i'd like to see him go, but he's gonna get a much bigger audience this way & is certainly showing off his talents.

http://www.mediafire.com/?dnyiyx5tngj

Meathole

With hints of jazz, idm, dnb & gabber spliced into one ultimately evil concept... throwing together dense soundscape with NWW samples and snares personal touch. This is essential for any fans of doll doll doll/find candace period snares, as well as anyone who just likes their breaks dark... and nasty.

http://www.mediafire.com/?bngmi4tjlyf

Infolepsy

Amazing, amazing, amazing! first track Twelve sounding like some kind of demented Caribbean funk-core, then Where's bill with it's insanely fast snares thrown in-between kill bill samples & fucking LOUD noises & Americanized with it's epic rant sample... this is one of my favorite snares releases and i'd say could be seen as a sort of sequel to Higgins.

http://www.mediafire.com/?71ylhxlnnjn

Rossz Csillag Alatt Szulettet

Everything that can be said about this album has pretty much been said... it's the starter for most snares fans & mixes classical & world influence into Breakcore, it's not however anything like Drukgs however much people want to make that connection. This is a heartfelt piece, with tracks like Felbomlasztott Mentokocsi creating very tense atmosphere's & Hajnal or Ongyilkos Vasarnap for those more into jazz influences works, but the stand out of this one is obviously Ketsarku Mozgalom, i couldent even begin to try and explain how immense the tune is, you'll just have to hear it yourself.

http://www.mediafire.com/?bgy324juaoh

Winnipeg is a Frozen Shithole

Listen to the sounds of winnipeg... as great an opening sample as anyone could find, but the sounds of winnipeg are far from friendly, they make the place appear like a home for mentalist hardcore gabber fans, this one heavy as fuck release, for the most part it stays with a similar gabber/breakcore punishment routine, but there are two stand out tracks, the homage to avant-garde homage to Nurse With Wound (winnipeg is steven stapleton's armpit) & the final track which reminds me somewhat of Alec Empire & Merzbow's collaboration cd... basically noise, but with the odd thing thrown in here & there.

http://www.mediafire.com/?0dqymkddwdj

Huge Chrome Cylinder Unfolding

Glitchy, clicky, spacey... like the components of a computer game going mad... beautifuly. You're sure to recognise certain samples from oldskool computer games and toys alike 'speak & read' most notably. Said to be one of his best, surely one that took a long time in the making... for sure it isn't very hardcore (not really at all) but damn is it still good.

http://www.mediafire.com/?otiwtotjkzv

Horse & Goat

Not snares best output, most have called it 'bits left off huge chrome'... but thats a tad uncalled for seeing as it's at least in my opinion... better. This is some of snares most hard to access music, but once you've listened through a few times these structures become nothing short of genius. Recommended for all fans of electronics that take a fair amount of time to get used to.

http://www.mediafire.com/?72dtrmdd51n

The Chocolate Wheelchair Album

It's almost impossible for a Breakcore fan let alone a snares fan to dislike this... re-working's of the coronation street theme, calypso'esque siousxie & the banshee's core... ghetto body buddy & hand throw's raggacore styling... sky painted on car showing what snares can do with dub & herbie goes ballistic, which has & probably always will be my favorite snares track. This album which apparently was originally to be called the stupid chocolate wheelchair is far from as the original title would of made out, mixing so many genre's of music, using so many snares & samples and keeping a pop feel to totally bizarre rhythms... there has never been another album that sounds quite like this & if you don't own it... your fucking loss.

http://www.mediafire.com/?ezhhmn0lync

Higgins Ultra-Low Track Glue Funk Hits 1972-2006

Most hail Rossz Csillag, Doll Doll Doll or Witboas as snares epic piece... i choose this. This is one of the single greatest pieces of Breakcore around, from dance like your selling nails with it's demented fairground like beat mixing in & out of oldskool ibiza euphoric'ness and onto banana seat girl... which is like a demented squarepusher bass kick but just that little bit more hectic, Make ronnie rocket & Vokeheads offer so many noises it's hard too cope, if you listen closely too make ronnie rocket you'll hear what almost sounds like a horse-drawn cart walking up a cobbles street... then BANG a snare comes in knocking you back into the track like a brick in the face, this one's epic, noise intro's like Fuck Off only add to the grimey hardcore quality. If you like dirty jungle/drum n bass or general breaks and if you can handle the producer acting like a genius on a drug cocktail... then this is for you.

http://www.mediafire.com/?2fmigamezz4

Winter in the Belly of a Snake

It's dark & you have no idea where you are... this is your soundtrack. Every sound like something from a mixture of demented nightmares, songs like Tattoo & Crawlspace sound like something from an uncanny horror movie, Stairs Song & January stand out amongst the rest with their ability to keep the albums theme while departing from the other songs to a far more glitch oriented darkness. It's like dark ambient gone breakcore soundtrack to an epic movie about what i can only presume to be his life, with eerie mentions of possible family history in 'Dad' & sung cover versions like 'She'... if all his albums have a noticeable theme which on the most part i'd consider many do... then this one's is definitely dark & troubled, all the better for it.

http://www.mediafire.com/?9xmjmzxz402

Songs About My Cats

Does what it says on the tin... kinda, well it is songs about his cats... and most are aptly named as such. But on a musical approach, his cats give him some pretty interesting influence, songs like Chinaski & Fluff Master are demented in sounds... but also have very pleasant melodies underneath & spurting in/out of the rough snares, while tracks like Pouncelciot are somewhat illbient sounding then morph into the bastard sounds that came before... but differently, not to mention the spastic sax solo nearing the end. It's hard to explain snares music without losing track of what you mean or how it's coming out... i guess that's just part of the reason that i love it.

http://www.mediafire.com/?1oyu0jyummn

Find Candace

Back to witboas territory here... it's dark, very dark... based upon a legend of a girl going missing in a woods in canada. Tracks like 'befriend a childkiller remix' with it's ever changing pace & disturbed samples compete alongside epic's like 'childrens limbo' a song that basically sounds like a film... a film about jazz... and hell... and death, the self titled album track 'find candace' which opens with typical snare like breakbeats then morphs into dark soundscape and back into what i can only describe as the sounds of a computer having the absolute shit kicked out of it... from the inside out. This is one beautiful piece of music.

http://www.mediafire.com/?ayznnizlnnj

Doll Doll Doll

The companion e.p alongside Find Candace... both using very dark theme's and each containing a seperate version of 'befriend a childkiller' both versions being totally different and amazing at the same time. One theme thrown into the mix of this album was the killing of jon bennet ramsey, the child pageant star killed by her own parents... samples from a police phone message at the time of investigation are used with rap samples about the killing. While it may not be the most tasteful thing around, since when the fuck is Breakcore about being tasteful hahaha. Other tracks like 'all the children are dead' are epic pieces again using soundscape along with what i can only presume to be film samples, possibly made by snares though then going into fast and nasty breaks ala his Printf stage.

http://www.mediafire.com/?4000gmz0njz

Printf(''shiver in eternal darkness/n'');

Lots of star wars samples thrown into a very cold metallic album, this one's heavy & fast... but unlike his others each beat has a much more industrial tone creating an all the more dirty atmosphere. This'll get any hardcore fan dancing.

http://www.mediafire.com/?ejw0da2mc0y

Shitfuckers, Salt, Greg Hates Car Culture & 7 Sevens Med. ep

I decided to group all his earlier releases together... because there arent as many tracks on them & if you want one of em' chances are you might want em' all. All very different from one another, Shitfuckers being the most hardcore of the bunch... they all have one thing in common, the dirt sound. Old snares has less perfected production and thus has a very distinctive dirty quality... one of the things i love about this release, it's also a great showcase of how his unique brand of beat mangling has progressed.

http://www.mediafire.com/?3jnnoonfnmw

2370894

Released under the alias Vsnares... this one sounds like a mix between Higgins & Chocolate wheelchair... but with something else entirely different as well. Often using instruments instead of beats, but never conforming to the sounds they're ordinarily used for, some kinda spasticated jazz-fusioncore.

http://www.mediafire.com/?3zmmnzutmmh

Fuck Canada/Fuck America

Split release with Stuntrock, this one's retarded, yet again said in a good way... but yeah totally retarded hahahaha. Tunes like 'let the dog out' with it's relentless screaming of let the dog out, a tune which is just someone taking a piss going into noise, this is what happens when you teach kids with punk ethics how to use electronics... they basically have a complete laugh with it while saying 'Fuck You'.

http://www.mediafire.com/?c5ovmbmknzx

Make Orange Things

The most hardcore thing he's ever released... a duet album of him & Speedranch, Speedranch giving Snares vocal samples via the net & then snares making crushing beats to put them with. Ive' only heard a couple of Gabba, Breakcore albums that can compete with this for insanity... Sure Noise is louder & Speedcore is faster, but this is at just the right level to still allow easy dancing while punishing the listener. Bon Jovi samples thrown in the mix only add to the humor of thissun' D:

http://www.mediafire.com/?frf1ynzmgmy

Nymphomatriarch

A concept album... the concept... to have sex with his then girlfriend Hecate (another prolific electronical artist) and record the sounds... then to take the sounds and arrange them into the following tracks. This is one's a tripper.

http://www.mediafire.com/?7mzt4mqjm1w

A Giant Alien Force More Violent & Sick Than Anything You Could Imagine!!!

One of snares most amazing releases, sick, nasty & loud... creating clear soundscapes for you to bend into mise-en-scene's of the mind. Truly original & with an ending so punishing it's almost criminal.

http://www.mediafire.com/?bmndenoig51

Badminton, Connected Series, Einstien Rosen 12'', Skelechairs, Defluxion, Moonglow.

All of snares individual 12''s... running through remixes of works off of choco wheelchair, to jazzy breaks & re-workings of danny elfmans music. All essential.

http://www.mediafire.com/?60zfd2i2yzw

Podsjfkj Pojid Poa 7''

A two track e.p split with Phantomsmasher, this one sounds like it made using mainly regular drum samples & guitar tuning... i would of included this on the e.p pack above, but i forgot about it, sorry D:

http://www.mediafire.com/?eoqzwzmmmmm

Clearance Bin/Breakbeat Malaria

Released under his 'Snares Man' alias, this is snares take on raggacore as far as i can see... it's fun, it's ragga & it's reminiscent of artists like Congo Natty or Remarc, but with a slightly harder kick.

http://www.mediafire.com/?exxmz2ym1im

4 Adaptations of Rossz Csillag Alatt Szuletett

These adaptations by venetian snares & Bong-ra are mainly focusing on the instrumental area's of the tracks, re-working them into jazzy/classical numbers... it's a first of it's kind for a genre like this as far as i can tell & totally different from anything I've heard Bong-ra attempt before.

http://www.mediafire.com/?d4lutohzwzn

Eat Shit & Die

An early self released tape by snares & dj Fishead, the Fishead side being a half our mix of gabber & hard breaks artists from back in the day & snares side being a 10 minute mix of other stuff, including Bjork.

http://www.mediafire.com/?fmn4gtvoitr

Bhavani, You're A Nice Girl

Both released under the alias 'Last Step' these are more IDM sounding & are along with Rossz some of snares more mellow material... if you're a fan you should like em'.

http://www.mediafire.com/?0ywqwq2cwqj

Dancing to a different drum

Burial
Burial

As fresh as massive attack sounded on blue lines release... this is epic stuff, after-party dubstep beats, like king tubby guiding you through a spaced out comedown.

Benga
Comb 60s / Killers About

considered one of the masters of the genre, this release gives an offering of two dubstep licks off of planet mu. While it also may be the case for all these releases, fans of grime are sure to love this specific one.

http://www.mediafire.com/?1onjdmnzktm

Skream
Skream

Jazzy dubstep with lo-fi vibes... when listening to this i get vague memories of old ska tunes, movie soundtracks and world music, while none may be present... this one has a sound of it's own. + perfect club material.

http://www.mediafire.com/?coyymyl0jmf

Boxcutter
Oneiric

Much more upbeat than todays other outings, there's traces of both acid & idm influence on thissun' & it's an easy repeat listener. If aphex made dubstep... it'd sound like this.

Fresh Drum n' Bass from the planet mu crew, it's heavy.... but in a much more mellow way to say 'Bizzy B' who i would see as the closest counterpart. Drumfunkin' filter blastin' jungle vergin' dnb. Just the way it should be D:

Dr. Bastardo

His first release, awesome breakcore from peace off records... crack salad came as a taster on his myspace awhile back, so this was eagerly awaited, gotta say i'm far from disappointed. Awesome release.

Thye
Revolt

Fast, nonsensically fun Breakcore.... using so many samples it's hard to pigeonhole, awesome production, great rhythms... this one grew on me FAST. A lot better than most of the amateur bedroom material coming out at the moment. I seriously recommend it to any fans of labels like Addict or Adaddat. Fun stuff.

The Ghost Orchid
An Introduction to EVP

Does what it says on the tin, a great introduction to the electronic voice phenomenon with research into it's origins, how & why it happens and tons of sound samples of EVP in effect. It's not music, but anyone interested in electronic sound or the bizarre is sure to enjoy this.
